RAM stands for Random Access Memory. It is the temporary working area of a computer. This is because once you switch off your computer the information contained in the memory disappears. This differs from the hard drive and flash memory where these store the data even when the computer is switched off. The flash memory is a small card that is normally contained in iPods, digital cameras and so on.

Since RAM is the working memory area of the computer, having sufficient RAM means that you have enough room to work on. The more the RAM the more space you have and the faster your computer will be. The less the space on the bench the less efficient the computer will be.
